Hong Kong once again named world’s freest economy
International Business News – According to a report on the website of the Hong Kong Economic Times on September 9, the Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank, released the “World Economic Freedom 2022 Annual Report”, and Hong Kong continues to be rated as the freest economy in the world. Hong Kong has been ranked No. 1 in the world since the report began. Among the five assessment categories, Hong Kong continued to rank first in “Freedom of International Trade” and “Regulation”.
The Hong Kong government welcomed the ranking, with a spokesperson noting that the government’s commitment to optimizing the business environment, improving market efficiency and supporting a more flexible and resilient economy has been reaffirmed by the government’s efforts to maintain an efficient, free, open and fair business environment.
The total value of Hong Kong’s asset and wealth management business reached HK$35.5 trillion (HK$1 = RMB 0.88) at the end of last year, an increase of more than 20% from the end of 2019. In the latest edition of the Global Financial Centre Index published in March this year, Hong Kong’s position and strength as a leading global financial center was once again recognized, maintaining its overall ranking as the first in Asia and the third in the world.
