Record level of foreign investment in Malaysia in Q2 2022
International Business News – The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has announced that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Malaysia increased by RM24.1 billion to a record RM836.2 billion in the second quarter of 2022 (from RM812.1 billion in the first quarter).
Among them, the manufacturing sector has received the most FDI funds, reaching RM360 billion, accounting for 43.1%; followed by financial business (RM989.8 billion, accounting for 22.7%) and wholesale and retail trade (RM53 billion, accounting for 6.3%).
According to the chief statistician of the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Asia is the region with the most investment in the country, with RM311.1 billion for 51.6%, mainly from Singapore and Hong Kong, followed by Europe and the Americas respectively.
Singapore’s investment in Malaysia was the largest at RM172.1 billion, accounting for 20.8%, followed by Hong Kong, China (RM91.1 billion for 10.9%), the United States (RM90 billion for 10.8%), and Japan (RM84.2 billion for 10.3%).
